Location: Oyugis Kenya

Description: We are returning to Western Kenya to continue our work in Oyugis, an area hard hit by AIDS.  The team will be involved in providing primary health care by setting up clinics as well as beginning a public health education program in the area and assisting with planning for a permanent clinic in the future.  This team is being coordinated jointly with Hope Teams International.  Plans are being made to take the team on an African safari during the trip.

Conditions: Team members will stay in a hotel with running water and electricity and be provided meals in the homes of one of our hosts.  Travel will be mainly by mini-bus in very sub-optimal conditions.  This trip will involve minimal in-country travel.

Date: July 7 - July 21, 2008

Location: Cochabamba Bolivia

Price: $1900

Description: Cochabamba remains a favorite destination for many team members.  Located near the middle of Bolivia in the foothills of the Andes mountains, this bustling city is in the center of some unthinkable poverty.  The team will be travelling daily to rural areas around Cochabamba to hold primary health care clinics in underserviced areas.

Conditions: Team members will stay on a compound in Cochabamba with running water and electricity and will take some of their meals in the compound.  They will travel daily to poor areas around Cochabamba to work but return to the compound each night.  There will be daily travel, but time on the road will be minimal.

Date: August 23 - Sept. 6, 2008

Location: Jungles of northern Bolivia

Price: $1900

Description: After nearly 10 years in the Caranavi region of Northern Bolivia, we are changing location this year for the jungle adventure trip.  This year, the team will be flown into a more remote location in the jungle than we have visited in the past.  This team will be involved in numerous activities including primary health care clinics in a variety of villages, health care teaching in each of  the villages, public health projects in some of the villages and two day-long health care seminars to train up local health care workers.

Conditions: This will be an “extreme team”.  Team members will often have to sleep on the ground or in primitive conditions.  There will be no running water or electricity.  The majority of travel will be by boat, we will not be using land vehicles this year.  There will be extensive travel on this trip!  The trip will culminate in a two day animal jungle safari.

 Location: Sudan/Uganda

Description: Although this is Project Helping Hands first time to send a team to Sudan, it will be under the guidance of Lesa Beth Titus who has worked numerous times in this area performing medical care to the refugees along the border between Sudan and Uganda.  The team will be staying in Uganda but crossing the border to work in the refugee camps in Sudan.  This will be a medical team.
   
Conditions: Conditions will be very rural.  Team members will stay in small huts with minimal amenities including minimal running water and electricity.  Transporation will be both by small plane and overland truck.
